The Lent season is a sacred time in the Christian calendar. For centuries, believers have observed the forty days leading up to Easter as a period of reflection, repentance, prayer, and spiritual renewal.
While many people associate Lent with fasting or giving something up, the deeper purpose of Lent is to draw closer to God and learn to be led by His Spirit. It is a season that invites believers to slow down, listen to God’s voice, and realign their lives with His purpose.
One important way God leads His people during this season is through sacrificial giving — offering our time, talents, and treasure as an act of worship and gratitude.
Understanding God’s Ownership
King David expressed a powerful truth in 1 Chronicles 29:14 when the people of Israel prepared offerings for the building of the temple.
David recognized that everything they possessed already belonged to God. Their offerings were not simply donations—they were acts of worship and stewardship.
This truth changes how we view giving. Instead of seeing generosity as loss, we begin to understand that we are returning to God what He has entrusted to us.

Every person has been blessed with unique gifts and abilities. These talents are not only for personal success but also for building up the body of Christ and serving the community.
Whether through leadership, music, creativity, teaching, hospitality, or acts of compassion, our talents can become powerful tools when we dedicate them to God’s work.
Lent is a wonderful time to ask God how our gifts can be used to bless others and strengthen the church.
Giving Our Treasure
Financial generosity is another expression of trust in God. When we give faithfully and sacrificially, we acknowledge that our provision ultimately comes from God.
Like David, we recognize that everything we possess comes from Him. Our generosity becomes an act of gratitude, worship, and faithful stewardship.
The True Heart of Lent

Whatever His leading may be, remember the truth of 1 Chronicles 29:14: everything we have comes from God.
When we respond to His voice with faith and gratitude, our lives become a reflection of faithful stewardship and worship.
