Learning to Be Led by God: How to Hear and Follow His Voice Daily
March LENT: Learning to Be Led by God
As we step into March, we enter the sacred season of Lent—a time dedicated to reflection, surrender, and spiritual renewal. At RHEMA Church, our theme for this month is "Learning to Be Led by God," inviting us to deepen our relationship with Him and understand the essence of true surrender.
Understanding the Essence of Lent
Lent is not simply about sacrificing something; it’s about offering ourselves completely to God. This includes yielding our will, our ways, and our worship to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
What Does It Mean to Be Led by God?
Being led by God involves:
Yielding our plans to His purpose
Surrendering our desires to His direction
Trusting His voice over our impulses
Walking by faith, not by sight
Humility is key in this journey. King David exemplifies this in 1 Chronicles 29:14 (NKJV): "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given You." Recognizing that everything we possess belongs to God transforms our perspective on giving.
Embracing Sacrificial Giving: Time, Talent, and Treasure
Lent encourages us to adopt a lifestyle of intentional sacrifice—not out of obligation, but from a place of love.
1. Giving Our Time
Time is one of our most precious resources. To truly be led by God, we must carve out time to listen to His voice:
Set aside daily prayer time
Meditate on His Word
Serve others, even when it’s inconvenient
Choose stillness over a hectic schedule
Consider these questions as you reflect on your time management:
Am I too busy to hear God?
Where is He inviting me to slow down?
2. Giving Our Talent
Every talent and gift we possess is a blessing from God. Lent is the perfect opportunity to recommit our abilities back to Him. When we allow God to lead our talents:
Our gifts serve a Kingdom purpose
Our influence brings Him glory
Our calling becomes clearer
Remember, we are stewards of our gifts, not owners.
3. Giving Our Treasure
Financial stewardship is a vital spiritual practice. As David reminds us, “Of Your own we have given You.” Sacrificial giving can manifest in various ways:
Tithes and offerings
Supporting ministry initiatives
Assisting those in need
Giving beyond our comfort zones
True sacrificial giving stretches our faith and requires us to trust in God’s provision, which is a testament to being led by Him.
The Heart of Lent: Surrender
Lent goes beyond mere religious practices. It is about cultivating a genuine relationship with God. When we fast, give, or serve, we are not trying to impress Him; we are positioning ourselves to hear His voice more clearly.
Being led by God means:
Saying “yes” even when it’s uncomfortable
Letting go when it’s painful
Obeying when the path is unclear
It’s about daily praying, “Lord, not my will, but Yours be done.”
Reflection for This Season
As we journey through March, take time to reflect on these questions:
What is God asking me to release?
Where is He calling me to give more freely?
How can I be more attentive to His leading?
Am I giving from abundance or from a place of surrender?
Remember, sacrificial giving is not measured by the amount but by the obedience of our hearts.
A Prayer for RHEMA This Lent
Heavenly Father,
Teach us to be led by You. Strip away our pride, self-reliance, and distractions. Help us to willingly give our time, talents, and treasures back to You. Remind us that all we have comes from You. May our lives be living offerings, surrendered fully to Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As we embrace this Lenten season, let us echo King David's humility: “All things come from You.” May RHEMA be recognized as a community that is not only generous but truly led by God.
